Twenty-four Ionic columns stand watch over the Azat River gorge in this design, tracing the silhouette of Armenia's own ancient wonder. Commissioned by King Tiridates I around 77 AD and dedicated to Mihr, the Armenian sun god, Garni is the only Greco-Roman temple to survive Armenia's conversion to Christianity — reduced to rubble by an earthquake, then patiently rebuilt stone by stone in the 20th century. A glowing tribute to a temple that simply refused to disappear.
